Per iniziare: chi sono i Destrage e perché hanno scelto questo nome?
I Destrage sono una band di Milano. Soffriamo il compromesso. Amiamo i dettagli. Non sopportiamo i preconcetti. Adoriamo metterci in discussione.
Abbiamo scelto questo nome per scherzo e non l’abbiamo più cambiato. Nonostante letteralmente non voglia dire nulla, per noi ormai significa troppe cose.
Quando e come è nato il vostro gruppo?
La band suona assieme dal 2006 ma nasce prima con me(Paolo) e Mat (chitarrista) tra cover e prime canzoni agghiaccianti.
Da dove nasce la vostra attitudine a toccare vari sottogeneri del metal?
Nasce dal nostro background molto diversificato, la voglia di non ghettizzarsi e quella di non annoiarsi mai.
Basta girare su forum e page metal per notare un certo astio provato dai più intransigenti metalheads verso il rap, considerato un genere inferiore. Che cosa ne pensate?
La musica può essere fatta bene o male, i generi musicali idem. Personalmente ascolto rap, ho i miei gusti a riguardo, artisti che mi piacciono, artisti che mi piacciono meno, artisti che non sopporto. Ma considerare un genere inferiore rispetto ad un altro lo trovo infantile. Specialmente se i due generi messi a confronto hanno radici completamente diverse (ma entrambe affascinanti) come il Metal e l’hip hop.
La cosa per altro ancora più affascinante di questi due generi sono stati i momenti in cui hanno incrociato le loro strade. Penso al “Bring The Noise Tour” con Anthrax e Public Enemy del 91, il crossover quello vero, l’unione dello stesso disagio attraverso diversi linguaggi. Penso anche ai Beastie Boys a Rick Rubin e a tutta la contaminazione di quel periodo. Peccato fossi troppo piccolo per godermelo.
La vostra è una proposta internazionale:
avete scelto di cantare in inglese. È una scelta che ha lo scopo di raggiungere più ascoltatori possibile? Dobbiamo aspettarci pezzi in italiano dalle vostre prossime uscite?
E’ una scelta dettata principalmente dai nostri ascolti nel genere, oltre che dalla volontà di parlare a più persone nel mondo. Non abbiamo mai pensato alla possibilità di un pezzo in italiano e la vedrei davvero difficile, ma nella vita mai dire mai.
Avete partecipato a tour con band di altissimo livello dimostrando di non esserne inferiori ed avete portato il metal italiano in alto, a ribadire ancora una volta che noi italiani non abbiamo nulla in meno musicalmente rispetto all’estero. All’inizio della vostra carriera immaginavate di poter raggiungere certi obiettivi?
Agli inizi se riuscivamo a chiudere un concerto nel cortile di uno dei palazzi in cui vivevamo eravamo già al settimo cielo 😊 ed è giusto così, perché è da li che si parte. Negli ultimi anni ci siamo tolti molte soddisfazioni, diversi tour in europa, italia, giappone fino al tour americano, sempre accompagnati da band fantastiche umanamente e professionalmente che spesso ascoltavamo da ben prima di conoscerle personalmente. E di questo non posso che essere grato. Soprattutto perché ho sempre avuto al fianco le persone migliori con cui fare queste esperienze.
Se vi osservassimo al momento della realizzazione di un progetto musicale, cosa vedremmo?

Tra i vostri singoli ne spicca uno che è indubbiamente quello più di successo, ovvero Purania. Riguardo questa canzone una vostra fan e nostra lettrice voleva sapere cosa rappresentassero le pillole citate, visto che nella prima strofa venga specificato il fatto che non si tratti di droga né di medicina, ma vi è in esse “confidata tutta la credenza delle persone” . Inoltre la stessa lettrice è curiosa di sapere in generale a cosa vi siate ispirati per scrivere questo testo e dargli quest’originale titolo.
Le Pillole sono metafore per descrivere tutte le cause o credenze che spesso siamo abituati ad ingurgitare senza neanche accorgercene. Propagande politiche, religiose, culturali. Mode di massa o anche il più semplice sentirsi obbligati a dire che qualcosa ci piace anche solo per essere accettati in determinati contesti.
E il testo parla di questo, parla di questo mondo immaginario e da incubo che abbiamo chiamato Purania. Dove la “purezza” intesa come non contaminazione è tutto, dove è tutto piatto e nulla può uscire dagli schemi perché altrimenti non viene accettato, dove un metalhead non accetta che un pezzo hip hop possa piacergli e a prescindere se ne priva etichettandolo appunto come “di genere inferiore” citando la tua domanda di poco fa. Il messaggio è: non precludetevi nulla, mangiate prima di dire che non vi piace qualcosa, non giudicatelo a priori. Perché potrebbe piacervi e potreste anche divertirvi 😊
L’ultima domanda delle nostre interviste di solito è extramusicale. Riguardo ciò volevamo chiedervi: youtube è la nuova televisione?
YouTube non è la nuova televisione perché non è unica come era la televisione nei suoi anni dominanti. Oggi esistono molti media, programmi, device, siti per l’ intrattenimento. Fino all’arrivo di internet invece solo radio e tv. Detto questo non do neanche per scontato che la tv scompaia a breve. Guarda ad esempio la radio, sembrava dovesse essere spazzata via dalle piattaforme streaming o dalle web radio. Invece l’FM registra sempre dati in crescita.
